Background
Hoy started in 2023 as the evolving electronic/dark wave musical project by Carl Sjöström. Being a member of the EBM/synth band Scapa Flow since late 1980s, Hoy is the solo project dedicated to exploring boundaries for musical genres as well as personal expressions.
2024
The 9 songs on the first releases in summer 2024 - the couple of "The Animals EP:s" - were written during the last decade, reflected in a variety of techniques, harmonies and instrumentation, yet homogenic in sound and expression. First EP Like a Dancer released in June, second EP All the Things released in September. Two songs were remixed by Swedish electronica artists (Hold Me Back/Moist, Desert Walk/Nano Ona).
2025
Jan 2025, Hoy releases instrumental track Intertwinings on the Lamour records compilation Because We Love Music, as well as the remix of the Gränslöst Limön song.
Work on the next album begins in spring, paused by work on the remix of Nano Ona/Shaperwave song Villain, the Nano Ona/Hoy colab single Live With It and the remix of the Fun Control song Poor Vlad.
First live appearance took place in Gävle, Sweden Aug 2025 at the small "Synth & Motion" outdoor festival (instrumental versions only).
On Dec 12 the single Out Of Love from the forthcoming album is released, followed by the Moist collaboration Erasure cover If I could on Dec 24.
2026
On Jan 5, Hoy is honored to participate for the second year on the Lamour records compilation Because We Love Music with Consequences, a song outlined some years ago with Scapa Flow bandmate Johan Nygren.
The first full length album Getting Closer is released on Jan 16, including Annie Lennox cover Why and revealing further collaborations with Karolina Westlund and Nano Ona. The release was followed by interviews with local national radio and Synth.nu (Sweden) and coverage by synth music magazine Side-Line (Germany) .
